A Wealth of History and Culture Beyond the Nakasendo

The Nakasendo Trail crosses over 525 kilometers to connect the cities of Kyoto and Tokyo. In particular, the mountainous areas of Southern Nagano are home to some of the most well-preserved portions of the trail, featuring Edo Period post-towns like Tsumago-juku and Narai-juku. Walking between these post-towns has become a popular activity for travelers from around the world. But off the beaten path, there’s still much to discover about this region.
From exciting festivals and performances to traditional crafts and breathtaking landscapes, beyond the Nakasendo Trail is a wealth of history and culture waiting to be discovered.
